The day usually begins with a Ganapathi Pooja or Vastu Pooja, performed by a priest to purify the space and ward off any negative energies. The family enters the home for the first time with a lighted lamp (Nilavilakku), symbolizing light and divine presence. Traditionally, milk is boiled in the new kitchen, allowing it to overflow — a sign of abundance and prosperity.
Guests, family, and friends gather to celebrate with prayers, traditional music, and a hearty Kerala-style feast (Sadhya) served on banana leaves. The ceremony is often followed by the lighting of lamps in every room, symbolizing the spread of positive energy throughout the home.
